Richard Cooney II is the Managing Partner and founding Principal of The Bluestone Group LLC, which was incorporated in 2004. Over the course of Mr. Cooney’s 29-year real estate career, he has represented both institutional and privately-held clients.
Prior to forming The Bluestone Group, Mr. Cooney was a Partner and Managing Director at The Greenwich Group International which was comprised of 10 offices on four continents. It was here that Mr. Cooney realized the importance of global contacts and the cross border flow of capital seeking yield.
Prior to The Greenwich Group, Mr. Cooney was a Vice President at Rockwood Realty Associates where he really honed his broad real estate skills. Mr. Cooney’s first foray into real estate was with Fosterlane Management, the US-based arm of the Kuwait Investment Authority, which was established to invest their oil profits in a portfolio of Class A US office buildings.
Prior to that, Mr. Cooney’s first job after college was with JJ Kenny & Company, the leading municipal bond pricing service on Wall Street which was subsequently sold to McGraw Hill’s Standard & Poor’s division.
Mr. Cooney received his undergraduate degree (BSBA) from Georgetown University, Washington DC in 1989 with a major in finance. While working full time at Rockwood Realty, Mr. Cooney put himself through graduate school and received his MBA from The Leonard N Stern School of Business at New York University in 1997 with a major in finance and a minor in real estate.
